The year ahead will not be an easy one. The economic, social, and public health challenges facing Canada are significant. As leaders guide organizations and staff responding to Canadians’ needs, they’re already feeling the weight of difficult choices in complex circumstances. This year’s keynote speakers, Sacha Médiné and Kendal Netmaker, have something to say about leadership in and through difficult situations.

March 10, 2021 - Through the Lens: Anti-Blackness after 2020 – Invisibility, hyper-visibility, & mental health
The workshop, facilitated by registered clinical counsellor Sacha Médiné, will explore the experience of Blackness, and the toll of anti-Blackness, in the aftermath of events in 2020. This was a year that featured a rapid move from the longstanding invisibilization of anti-Blackness to a hyper visibility and newfound focus in response to the global Black Lives Matter uprising. Participants will be invited to explore the impacts of, and responses of Black folks to, these dynamics, and to engage with their own participation in, or resistance to, ongoing anti-Blackness in its new context.
Presented by the UBC Equity & Inclusion Office
February 26, 2021 - Exploring Anti-Blackness in Canada
During this event, Sacha Médiné will be guiding us through difficult discussions regarding the Black experience. Through discussing the racism built-in the Canadian system, this event hopes to highlight the nuances of being Black in Canada. After 2020, it's clear that racism in Canada is prominent, and although it's being acknowledged, we know that anti-blackness continues to exist in a new context. We're inviting participants to share their experiences and to work towards creating a safer space for all.
Presented by the Concordia Student Union
